[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It happens in the best of places. Tropical vacations are meant to be eternal sunshine and Caribbean breezes, so when those raindrops start falling, there’s bound to be a little disappointment. Belize’s rainy season runs from May to November, but it’s generally a short downpour through the day. After a couple of hours, the blazing hot sunshine that reappears makes you forget there were even clouds earlier! If you do wake up on a gloomy day in Paradise, there are still so many activities you can enjoy to make the most of your vacation.
(Disclaimer: Pay attention to tropical weather updates, and if there’s thunder and lightning, the common-sense approach is to wait it out, perhaps with some board games or playing cards to while away the time.)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Get in the water
You were going to get wet anyway, and the sea is warmer than the breeze on land! You can still enjoy a few hours at sea, snorkeling or diving. For added measure, bring a nice warm long-sleeved shirt or cozy coverup for the boat ride back to your hotel. An added bonus to heading out under the rain is that not many will opt to do so, and the popular sites may have less people around. Win-win![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_single_image image=”8869″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Hike the jungles and archaeological sites
Have we mentioned Belize is nice and toasty? A light rain on a long hike will be a welcome relief as you trek through pathways that lead to some of the most amazing Maya temples. Take a chance to breathe in the fresh air, then concentrate on the sound of a wet jungle as your soundtrack. Chirping birds bathing in the branches, trickling streams of water winding their way through paths, frogs croaking. The rain adds an extra touch to the experience.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_single_image image=”8874″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Visit Tour Centers or Specialty Shops
Immerse yourself in hands-on experiences! Have you ever wondered how chocolate is made? There are a few places that will not only tour a cacao farm with you, but will show you how to grind roasted cacao beans and prepare delicious chocolate treats within a couple of hours. Some locations even offer hands-on tortilla classes. Focusing on the traditional Maya method of mano y metate, you can grind maize into masa, which eventually becomes soft, delicious tortillas baked on a traditional fogon (fire hearth). Rain -what rain?! You’re cozy with your bowl of chocolate drinks and/or hot tortillas in hand, already envisioning recreating them back home![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_single_image image=”8877″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Eat (local)
There’s just something about a little rainy weather that opens up the appetite. If a little downpour catches you at a restaurant or deli, take it as an invitation to revise your menu picks, and maybe indulge in a selection of appetizers. Talk to your server and get some recommendations on local and inspired dishes that you can enjoy at leisure. We always recommend some small bites like salbutes, panades, garnaches, a ceviche, maybe a coconut tart for dessert…and if you enjoy a good cocktail or two, taste test a few local drinks as well.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_single_image image=”8880″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Enjoy your hotel
If the drizzle turns more into a downpour, you might have to truly turn to the amenities at your hotel. Is there a spa? What about a hot tub? More and more resorts offer great amenities such as these, and you might not even notice the time passing by! Belly up to the on-site bar, have a few snacks from the restaurant, make yourself comfortable on a hammock or lounge and catch up on some light reading. This might actually be the most relaxation you indulge in before the next day’s activities get you up and out the door. Savor every moment.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_single_image image=”8883″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
